Maria Bewcyk RK, BHK
As of July 2007, Maria Bewcyk is proud to be the new owner of Therapedia Rehabilitation Centre. She graduated from the University of Bristish Columbia in 2006 with her Bachelor’s of Human Kinetics Degree. She also holds the designation of a Registered Kinesiologist (RK) with the British Columbia Association for Kinesiologists.
Over the past five years, Maria has built an extensive background in sport-specific conditioning, Athletic Training and Personal Training. She has worked in a variety of settings providing one-on-one and group personal training, as well as conditioning classes. She has first hand knowledge of sports related injuries through her experience as an Athletic Trainer. She was the Athletic Trainer for the UBC Thunderbirds Football team for their 2003-2004 season. She also volunteered at the BC Lions High School Football Camp in 2004. Maria has worked as an Athletic Trainer for the BC Amateur Hockey Association for the past 3 years. She was the head Athletic Trainer for the Vancouver Rangers Major Midget Hockey team for their 2004-2005 season, for Zone 3 (Hockey) at the 2006 BC Winter Games, and for the Canucks Female Jamboree.
While Maria was working on completing her Bachelor’s Degree, she trained and coached many individuals from teachers, police officers, fire fighters and hockey players. She motivated them to achieve their personal fitness goals, recover from injuries and achieve optimal health and performance. Being a National Level Figure Skater, Maria has a passion for working with athletes at all levels and various sports. Along with training athletes through RPM Hockey School, Maria has experience working with clients at Fitness World, various parks and recreation fitness and skating programs, the National Hockey Training Centre, Okanagan Hockey School and the Hockey Performance Centre.
Maria continues to educate herself further in the many areas of Kinesiology. She recently received designation as a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology. She is also certified through the British Columbia Parks and Recreation Association in Weight Training. Maria also holds current St. John’s Ambulance Safety Oriented First Aid - Enhanced and CPR certifications. She has her Twist Conditioning – Sport Strength Level One Certification and NCCP Level One Theory.
Maria enjoys living a healthy, active lifestyle. Through her experience as a competitive figure skater, she knows and understands how much training and determination it takes to be successful in competitive sports. Maria looks forward to working with you on your rehabilitation, sport specific conditioning, core training and to improve your overall fitness and lifestyle goals.
